The Saint John's Bible

Posted on 9 October 2009 wgleeson

The Saint John's Bible is a seven volume handwritten and illustrated Bible, the first to be commissioned in over 400 years. The project, undertaken on behalf of the Saint John's Abbey and University, is an illuminated edition of the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.

Senior Scribe to HM Queen Elizabeth's Crown Office, Donald Jackson, is overseeing the task of putting together the Bible.  He is co-ordinating a team of artists and theologians, combining images, tools and technologies ancient and modern to produce a remarkable Bible.

For those not lucky enough to travel to Saint John's Abbey in Minnesota, Camden Theological Library is able to bring the Saint John's Bible to you with copies of reproductions produced by Liturgical Press.  With two volumes (Historical Books and Letters and Revelation) yet to be published, the initial five volumes are available for viewing and borrowing fom the Library.  Click here to view the catalogue record for the Saint John's Bible.
