The Abingdon Creative Preaching Annual

Posted on 15 December 2014 Gavin Glenn

The Abingdon Creative Preaching Annual 2015 contains powerful, thought-provoking, creativity-spurring helps for weekly sermon preparation. It is a “best of the best” collection of reflections, ideas, and resources for the preacher, teacher, and study group leader. Organized according to the weekly readings of the common lectionary, The Annual provides a wide variety of perspectives, writings, and media and music suggestions as well as links to additional online resources. Readers can quickly skim the material, focusing on the segments that resonate with them, and come away from the Annual equipped with new ideas and direction for the process of sermon and lesson preparation.

The Annual does not provide pre-packaged, ready-to-preach, plug-and-play sermons. It does provide the impetus and innovation preachers need in order to do their own great work as they prepare to authentically proclaim the gospel.

In addition to the weekly entries, the Annual includes:

  • A comprehensive list of online resources, websites, and blogs
  • Editor’s insights, reflections on passages and themes written by Jenee Woodard, curator of textweek.com
  • A list of contributors, so that readers can read more from their favourite contributors
  • A scripture index, so that readers can find entries for particular passages
  • A thematic index, for preachers and teachers who start with topics rather than the lectionary
