Mario's Angels : A Story About the Artist Giotto

Posted on 8 May 2012 Gavin Glenn

Mario longs to help Mister Giotto paint his Nativity fresco. He wants to work with the paints, be a model, brighten up the picture - and all his suggestions are politely refused. But that night, after watching his baby sister playing, Mario goes to bed and dreams of something that will transform Giotto's fresco.

Mary Arrigan's lively story and Gillian McClure's playful illustrations bring the great 14th-century painter Giotto vibrantly to life. A note on Giotto and his frescoes, together with a reproduction of the Nativity, combine in a perfect introduction to the artist known as the father of European painting.
