Camden Theological Library

Classification Schemes

The materials in Camden Theological Library are arranged on the shelves by subject.

A new classification system was implemented from the start of 2009. This is called the Library of Congress or LC classification system. Older books will continue to be shelved using the previous shelving sequence.

All library materials (other than Journals, which are shelved alphabetically by title) are given a classification number, to help you find where they are shelved.

To find items on the shelves you need to:

  • Note the collection where it is shelved
  • Write down the complete call number. This will match up with the spine label
  • Note whether the record says ‘Available’ or ‘On Loan’.
